The TalkinGolf History Podcast
A Few of My Favorite TalkinGolf History Podcasts
Not everyone listens to podcasts, but I think there is a strong argument that everyone should listen to them.
First and foremost- think of any crazy subject you can imagine and then imagine finding a radio program that catered to that weird subject, but imagine you could fast forward that radio program or skip to the next show if you didn’t like that particular episode.
If by chance you love golf history & do not listen to the TalkinGolf History Podcast - this newsletter is for you. I thought I would share some of my favorite episodes that may provide a great introduction to the first ever podcast dedicated to golf history.
TalkinGolf History #22: “The Club That Time Forgot.”
One of the most delightful stories we have told on the podcast. The story of Lake Zurich Golf Club, its history, it’s comical members & how they defeated imminent domain to save their club.
TalkinGolf History #11: “The Champion Who Lost His Mind.”
This episode is golf’s first ever docupod. It tells the tragic story of Johnny McDermott.
A story every golfer should know about and it’s only 40 minutes long!
TalkinGolf History #15: “The Stolen Major.”
A story from the early days of the Open Championship and how in 1892, the Open could have ceased to exist. This is the story of how the Open was (in the minds of Musselburgh) stolen away in the middle of the night and how the events that followed could have ended major championships forever.
An amazing docupod and it’s only 22 minutes long!
TalkinGolf History Episode #56: “My Friend, Ben Hogan”
The first of many interviews with legendary Masters Tournament announcer, Ben Wright, who passed away shortly after these series of interviews were recorded. In this episode Ben talks about how he got involved with broadcasting and how he struck up a friendship with one of the greatest golfers of all-time.
A sensational podcast!
I am not sure if I convinced anyone to start listening to podcasts, let alone the TalkinGolf History Podcast, but I gave it a good try.
Give these shows a listen and let me know what you think!
Thank you for taking the time to read our free weekly newsletter dedicated to the history of the game of golf. If you enjoy it, please let your friends know that they should subscribe too. Again it’s completely free of charge!
